What Will You Do This Halloween????

Standard

Are you ready?

Less than 24 hours for All Hallow’s Eve!!!

Dear Spanish people,

Halloween is NOT all about the Eerie and the Gory Scary Blood-Soaked Image.

Halloween is like our Carnival….our costumes reflect our Creativity.

They can be Sweet, Smart, Clever oooooor downright ‘Scary-as-all-Hell’ or for the girl ‘Sexy-as-all-Hell’.

So break away from your typical Witch, Vampire, Ghost, Pumpkin…etc…..

Show me what you’ve got!

I’m ready. Are you?

Love,

La Guiri

Oh Me Oh My…How Time Flies!

Standard

Sooooo it’s been a little over 2 months since my last post! But as they say….Times Flies When You’re Having Fun!!!!

Besides being busy with work and my rigorous daily traveling via the Madrid Public Transport systems, I did take time to:

a) Celebrate my 27th Birthday

My Ladies!!! Dani, Me and Polly at my Birthday Party!!!!

(I can’t believe another year has gone again!!!! I moved to Madrid when I was 23!!!! Holy Shizzzzzzz!!!!!!)

and

b) Have my Mom and Grandma over for a 2 week visit over Easter break and the week following it.

I hadn’t seen my Mom in about 2 and a half years….and I hadn’t seen my Grandma in almost 4 YEARS!!!!!!!

Soooo it was nice to have them here….of course the usual occurs when family stays with you for a long time….they do get on your nerves, buuuuut that’s what family members are for!

I have come to the conclusion after this trip that my Grandma Shirley is AWESOME!!!!!

And I’m A LOT LIKE HER!!!!!!!!

Things I’ve learned from my Grandma over this little 2 week trip…

*Drink a Beer or a Glass of Wine Everyday…..Not because you’re an alcoholic (1 is enough really) buuuuuut because you DESERVE IT!!!!

Me and Grandma and Our Tinto de Veranos

Beer and Patatas Bravas on a Terraza in Valencia

*Be Feisty and Let People Know What You Think and Have NO REGRETS about What You Say or Do!

Waiting for the Bus back to Madrid from Valencia….chillin!!!!

*Eat Ice Cream and Dark Chocolate EVERYDAY!!!! Why????…..WHY NOT, is the correct response to that question.

Eating Ice Cream on a Rainy/Cloudy day in Madrid. ๐Ÿ™‚

*Take Pictures of Hot Waiters aaaaand call them Hot in front of them even though they don’t understand you. ๐Ÿ˜‰

The Hot Waiter from La Pepica in Valencia

*Act like a child while at the beach….picking seashells never gets old!!!!!

Collecting Seashells…

*Be Active!!!…because the moment you stop, your age might catch up with ya and you won’t feel as young as you really are.

My Grandma Climbed up 7 flights of stairs in a tower in Toledo….

And this is what she saw! (Toledo, Spain)

*When someone won’t give you their attention…..a little ‘YOO-HOO!’ ย and a lil wave of the hand works wonders!!!!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

*Stop Your Bitchin’ and Be Grateful For What You Have!

*Work Hard…Always! Cause If You Don’t Work Hard You Have NO RIGHT To Complain!!!!

*You don’t need much in this world to be happy…Some Food, Friends, Family, A Roof Over Your Head and Some Clothes on Your Back…..everything else are extras that make the ice cream even sweeter….but plain vanilla, chocolate or strawberry is alright with me!

And what I’ve learned from my mother is…..

*I love her and I’m so grateful for her….buuuuut she is her father’s daughter and I am my father’s daughter which makes us Day and Night. And although she might drive me bonkers after 3 or 4 days together, she is still my Mom! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Christmas in Madrizzzzz

Standard

Just wanted to share some of my favorite moments from this Christmas…..I definitely had a BLAST!!!!!! I ate and drank with merriment and with WONDERFUL groups of people.

Thanks to the Menendez-Pidal family for welcoming me into their family and letting me spend Christmas Eve day dancing with their kids and enjoying that afternoon with an AMAZING family!

Thanks to my man Inaki and his FABULOUS parents who welcomed me to their Christmas Eve dinner. I had a wonderful time with them eating seafood and drinking cava (spanish champagne) and dancing to Christmas music in their living room.

Cognac, anyone??? ๐Ÿ˜‰

(Dancing is a theme to wherever I seem to go…..hahahaa!)

Thanks to Jennifer Riggins (http://jkriggins.wordpress.com/) for inviting me to join in her Christmas Day luncheon with Asian food and some Christmas Movies…..Yay for the Motherless Misfit Toys of Madrid!!!!

Celebrating Christmas Day at Jennifer’s!

And Thanks to All the GREAT PEOPLE who came to my house for Christmas Day Dinner and New Year’s Eve’s Dinner!!!!! Loved dancing with you all using the Wii game and I loved our random conversations amongst the food and drinks!!!!

Countdown…..to 2012!!!!

Cheers to the New Year!

Shots to Ring in the New Year!

And although I don’t have any pictures of it….the Reyes DID visit me! Which was a complete surprise!!!!

*Sidenote — The Reyes Magos (or The Three Wise Men) are typically the ones to bring the Spanish children their Christmas gifts and they receive them on the day of the Epiphany aka Jan. 6. But now alot of families celebrate both Santa and Reyes.

I’m gonna miss that Christmas Spirit…..

Christmas Lights around the City

Churros and Chocolate after some Christmas Shopping

Christmas Concerts in the different Plazas and Squares of the City

Visiting different Belenes (Nativity Sets) around the City’s different Cathedrals and Churches

Cheers to the Present, the Past and the Future…nothing a lil Champagne can’t fix!

I hope everyone got enough Christmas Spirit to last them all year until the next one!!!!

Besos!

Giving Thanks 2011

Standard

So 2 weeks back my foreign friends and I organized our 3rd anniversary Turkey Day festivities. So far, due to table space and the ever-important oven requirement, we’ve had it at either my house or Mary’s.

Since Mary and her man – Carlos moved up to Santander in the North of Spain on the coast of the Bay of Biscay we had decided to head up there this year for our delicious yearly extreme feeding. This way we’d be able to see her new place and get the hell out of Madrid for a day or two. It was totally worth it even when Inaki’s car broke down just about 10kms from Mary’s place. (Hahaha….it was like something that WOULD happen to me and my friends…sometimes I feel like I live in a movie.)

Mary ended up getting a 15 kilo (33 lbs) turkey since it was that or a really small one for our group of about 16 people. She had to get a saw to cut it in half and she had to cook it half and half since it didn’t all fit in the oven (Ha!).

Talk about crazy Thanksgiving experience….this definitely hit it right on the spot!

Thanksgiving Napkins (Photo by Alex Simoes)

We had all the trimmings…

Turkey

Mashed Potatoes…and GRAVY!!!!

Green Bean Casserole

Stove Top Stuffing

Mary’s Homemade Mac-n-Cheese (Drooling as I think about it now!)

Cranberry Sauce

Sweet Potatoes….although I didn’t like the recipe I chose, gonna have to try another one for next year.

Roasted Autumn Veggies

And our international guests brought some typical Spanish dishes and also some Indian food…these came in handy later with our hangovers! ๐Ÿ˜‰

And for dessert…..Polly’s Famous Chocolate Muffins and Brownies, Pumpkin Pie, Apple Crumble and Tiramisu.

Sooooo basically, everything was DELICIOUS!!!!!

I thought I’d share some of my pictures and some of the pictures my friend Alex took (I really need to get a good camera….haha).

Enjoy the pics!

We all had a blast, as always! Hope you don’t drool too much looking at these pics! ๐Ÿ™‚
